PENALTIES

CLASS 1 DRUGS:
- Producing, importing or exporting in violation of Article 15: Life imprisonment and fine from one million baht Up to five million  
  baht.
- Producing, importing or exporting for selling: Capital Punishment (Death Penalty) Section 65, paragraph 2

For Class 1 Substances the accused is punishable by Up to life imprisonment plus a fine of 1,000,000-5,000,000
With the determination of disposal, the penalty is capital (death-row).
Depending on the quantity of the illegal substance that a person is carrying, and except for the quantity that can be used at one time for personal consumption, a Thai court has the right to sentence the culprit by up to death or life in prison for drug dealing offences. To be taken with a considerable amount, the only hope that remains is a grace from the King, sometimes years away. Although Thailand has not enacted the death penalty for drug-related offences since 2004, Thai prisons contain a lot of travellers sentenced to life.
Furthermore, rehabilitation and rehabilitation consultations are mandatory for all categories of drugs and any use. Therefore, even a smoker of a joint should attend a rehabilitation course.
